Maïwenn, the writer, director, and producer of the upcoming French biographical drama film “Jeanne du Barry”, has revealed in an interview with Première that she has been passionate about bringing Madame du Barry’s story to the big screen since 2006. She approached Johnny Depp in late 2019, offering him the lead role of Louis XV, and Depp agreed without even reading the script after his assistant fell in love with it.

Filming

Principal photography for the movie started on July 26, 2022, in Versailles and other parts of Paris and lasted for 11 weeks. On November 1, 2022, Wild Bunch International announced the key territories that had acquired rights to distribute the movie, and also released another image of Depp in character.
